The plan for the day was to visit Washington DC. Natalie and I were delighted to see all the tree’s and the differences of the East Coast. We were turned around without any landmarks. And other than the messy traffic, and the horn happy commuters, we enjoyed the trip.
Our first stop was the Smithsonian. It was kind of surreal to be around all the landmarks that we see on TV all the time. Just before our trip, Natalie had watched an episode of Bones, and Booth and Bones were walking right at the base of the Washington Monument. And Dad found a parking spot right there.
The first museum that we went to was the National Museum of American History. It was neat to see some of the items that they had up for display. There were lots of guns and military uniforms, and Brian insisted that I take pictures of every single one. We saw the Ruby Slippers from the Wizard of Oz, Apolo Ohno’s speed skates, and a piece of the Berlin Wall. One of the kid’s favorite exhibits was a robotic car that has travelled across the nation.
We had lunch in the cafeteria of the museum and headed to another museum. This one was much more of a hit with the kids. It was the National Museum of Natural History.
This museum was much more like a zoo for the kids and they really took to it. We got to see all kinds of animals, and it was a really good time.
The kids are so into the ocean and all the creatures that live inside of it. So the ocean portion of the building was a big hit. They really liked the fish tank that had real life versions of all the fish on Finding Nemo.
And then the dinosaurs were also a hit
I really enjoyed the photo contest pictures. I am really fascinated by talented photographers. Can you spot the monkey in the picture?
After we got done with the museum we headed to some monuments. We got to see the Jefferson Memorial, it was very cool.
The view of the Potomac was so pretty. Being the nerd that I am, I decided to experiment with my camera. I took multiple pictures and used some software to stitch them together. What do you think? (Apparently my blog doesn’t like the wide picture, so click this one to see the full thing)
From there we took a walk, and the kids made a new friend.
And no trip to Washington DC would be complete without seeing the White House.
And then we were off to see the Lincoln Monument
And our last visit was to the Vietnam Wall, we even found a Marchant on the wall.
By the time we were done here, the kids were exhausted and everyone was ready for dinner. And then the kids were able to get back to the house where they got new life and tried to egg their Grandpa into as many wrestling matches and tickle times, as possible.
So fun! I couldn't even tell that you stitched that picture together! Good job! I also had a hard time picking out the monkey in that one picture. Was it on the lower left?
